Meant 2 Be
By Shakira Jasmine, Nicole Imania
We are all cut from the same cloth– in the fabric of the universe, we are all lost souls connected by one red thread– love.
Love– a mythical and enchanting virtue. A flower we often leave overgrown– showering its petals until eventually, the bud withers. As Shakira describes in Meant 2 Be, her experience with love has been rather bittersweet. Love has left her with a letter– a letter telling her to come home and face the mess she’s made.
The house she comes home to is in shambles. Darkness pours out of the cracks in the walls, with a surface that has now frozen solid due to the cold, yet breaks at the first sign of pressure. On the other side of the same coin, there lies Nuca, another victim of the thorns of the bright red rose. He weeps for the love his body once felt– for once you’ve felt its magic, how can you live without it?
As fate would have it, these two souls end up crossing paths– as if they were meant to be. A realization then dawns upon them– one cannot blossom without the other, for togetherness only comes when we realize we cannot face the fear we have for all the things inside of us we can’t bear to face alone.
Though most relationships stray away from the idea of being platonic, love from life in itself is just as important. Love is a collection of fleeting feelings not only with lovers, but from every interaction we have with people on the same frequency.
Here, Meant 2 Be narrates a story starring two hearts, full of life but loveless, who eventually find comfort but more importantly a love they've been yearning for in each other– a feeling that leaves them whole, mending their broken pieces in the dead of night.
