Father Koi is an Asian-American Indie/Alt artist from Queens, NYC. She started writing songs in 2016, attempting to capture feelings in song and melody for what was harder to say in words. Since then, she has put out several singles as well as a full length album in May 2020, "Late Afternoon National Anthem." Her newest release, "Drown / Mind Crossing," reflects upon the themes of lost relationships and the bittersweetness that comes from musing over the "what-ifs" of possibility. Inspired by the sounds of the Beatles, Mitski and Boy Pablo, "Drown / Mind Crossing" combines silky harmonies, honest lyrics, and the sweet harshness of the electric guitar. Thank you so much for listening!

From the Staff

“Her musical dream-like scapes reflect finding belonging in a headspace of lost memories. Drown opens with a soft electric guitar, building up to synths you find in Boy Pablo. Also, it's easy to have the desire to live in the imagery her lyricism paints. From singing about summer and running away with a loved one, it's an alluring escape from the pandemic.

In Mind Crossing, it feels like you're enchanted by a lone piano singing and waiting for someone in an abandoned room. Reminiscing some of Lorde's music, Lu's gentle but powerful voice conveys a tragic perspective on love. Hence, collapse into the abstract of her what-ifs and unknowns, relevant to this month's theme of oddity.”
